‘Every second, someone in the world needs blood. Millions of people owe their lives to people they will never meet – people who donate their blood.’
On June 14th, The Welsh Blood Service will unite with other global Healthcare Organisations in celebrating, World Blood Donor Day (WBDD).
WBDD is dedicated to honouring and thanking millions of people who donate their blood on a voluntary, unpaid basis to give the most precious gift of all – ‘The Gift of Life.’
Trudi Evans, Recruitment Manager for the Welsh Blood Service said “We are very lucky to have many dedicated donors who have saved thousands of lives in Wales. We all know someone who has received blood, maybe a Mum after childbirth or a tiny premature baby, where a small amount of blood has given them that chance of life, or a cancer patient who relies on numerous blood and blood products during their illness. The Welsh Blood Service and patients throughout Wales could never thank our donors enough for their generosity.”
Our aim is to supply our hospitals with whatever bIood or blood products they might need. To continue to save lives it is vital we encourage more younger people to donate blood, especially those between the ages of 17-30 years due to a decline in our donor database. We need to act now to stop this decline, enabling us to supply Welsh hospitals in the future. Please help us spread the message
