Donating by Platelets
Platelets are one of the components of blood. They help to stop or prevent bleeding. They are either processed from donations of whole blood or are collected using a machine called a cell separator. A cell separator automatically separates the donor's blood components and collects the platelets with a small amount of plasma. Red cells, white cells and most of the plasma are returned to the donor during the donation. This is called Plateletpheresis.

Joining The Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry
The Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry is a panel of blood donors who have volunteered to have the white cells in their blood "tissue typed". The panel is searched every day to try and find donors whose tissue type is a close match to patients who need life saving bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cell transplants.
Please visit our Joining The Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Panel page for further information on how you can donate.
