Christmas and New Year was a very challenging time for the Welsh Blood Service
Christmas and New Year was a very challenging time for the Welsh Blood Service. The inclement weather combined with colds and flu seriously reduced our blood stocks and we were unable to collect the donations required every day to supply our hospitals in Wales.
During this period there was a shortfall of 1,000 donations and for the Welsh Blood Service to continue to supply hospitals with the blood products they needed it was vital that we made an urgent appeal for blood donors to come forward and give a life-saving donation.
The support for the appeal was truly amazing and our concerns and blood stocks were both lifted as our regular, lapsed and new donors came forward and donated blood.
However, during this period our blood donation clinics were extremely busy and many of our donors experienced long waiting times and some donors were unable to wait.
Please accept our sincere apologies if you faced a delay during the appeal. We value every one of our donors and appreciated their support and patience at this difficult time.
Blood stocks in Wales are now at a healthy level again thanks to the unprecedented generosity of our donors.
Thank you once again!
