Welsh Blood Service and Run4Wales team up to offer ‘donations with a difference’ at the upcoming Newport 10k race

Do you know someone whose life was saved by a blood donation? Or are you a proud blood donor who wants to do more to help others?

For the first time ever, we have teamed up with Run4Wales to offer charity spots at its upcoming Newport 10k race (Sunday 24th October) in return for ‘donations with a difference’. Five runners will be given the opportunity to tie up their laces and run in the race by spreading the importance of lifesaving blood donations.

With only a few places available, interested runners are being asked to email us explaining what makes them the Welsh Blood Service’s biggest fan and why they would like to be chosen as its charity runner. You may be inspired to apply after having received a blood transfusion, on behalf of a family member or simply because you’re eager to make a difference by raising awareness of lifesaving blood donations.

Chosen runners will be given a unique donation link on our website allowing friends and family to rally around and show their support by signing up to become a blood donor if they choose.

Blood donations play a vital role in saving lives each day, with donations supporting a range of treatments from helping accident victims or patients with blood cancers to helping mothers and newborn babies during childbirth.

The five chosen runners will play a vital role in inspiring open discussions about the benefits of blood donations, and hopefully inspire new donors to sign up and support the Welsh Blood Service in meeting the 350 blood donations it needs to collect every day to supply hospitals across the country.

Would you like to be a Welsh Blood Service charity runner? Please email wbs.communications@wales.nhs.uk with your name, hometown and up to 200 words on why you would like to run by Wednesday 6 October.
